Power of Search in Salesforce
Power of Search
Salesforce Search: We use the built-in search function of the Salesforce platform to search for any record or file. It gives us the power to retrieve information faster. Wen, we need to find any word, we use keywords to search for any record or a file, and matching to that appropriate results will be retrieved in results.
In Salesforce, there are four types of searches:
- Sidebar Search
- Global Search
- Advanced Search
- Feed Search
Objects, fields, records, groups, feeds, peoples and users all can be searched for using the search functionality provided by Salesforce.
Enabling the Chatter in Salesforce we have both the Global search and Feed search automatically enabled.
And the searches Sidebar search and Advanced search are enabled when Chatter is disabled.

Global Search:
Global search is used to find a record. It is present at the header of the page. We can use filters and sort our search results to find what we need fast/first.
We need to enter specific search terms to get accurate results.
For better understanding: If we need to find a specific contact add Account name to the search term to see more targeted results.
Eg: ABC Construction
The dropdown list here of My Recent Items includes and highlights the part of record name matching for our search term.
- Clicking on the Search button.
It will take us to the search result page.
Search returns the matching result for the object that we visit more often. We can use Search All to expand the search to other objects.
- Now click Search All to fetch the results for more objects.
- Search Feed shows posts from your organisation that match your keyword.
Clicking on the object name in the left search navigation bar to see results for that particular object.
If we don't get the record that we are trying to find, we need to refine our search. Either sort results by clicking the filters.
Admins can determine the availability of the filter fields and customizable columns on a search layout.
