Data Loader in Salesforce - Learn All About it Here

Data Loader is a platform which helps us with the mass import or export of data. It allows us to insert, update, delete, or export all types of Salesforce records.   

Data Loader allows us to read, extract and load data from CSV files (comma-separated values files). And required a database connection for importing data. Data is saved as CSV files, when you export data from a data loader. 

Data Loader can be Used in Two Different Following Ways:

1. User interface: You are required to do tasks mutually while making use of the user interface for identifying the criteria of configuration. It uses CSV files for export, import and field mappings which have the same field names in your import file as well as the field names in Salesforce. 
2. Command-line (Windows only): Configuration, data sources, mappings, and actions are specified in files when using the command line. You may use this to configure Data Loader for automatic processing.  

 Data Loader Has the Following Key Features:

• It helps us to easily use interactively the user interface app. 

• Window OS supports an alternate command-line interface only for automated batch operations. 

• Drag-and-drop field mapping, and you can also save mapped fields.  

• It supports all standard and custom objects.  

• It is used to process data in Salesforce as well as in Force Database.com.  

• When the task is completed, a detailed success and error log files are generated in CSV format.  

• It supports Windows and also Mac operating systems.

Data Loader Can be Used:

• Data loaders can be used to load data greater than 50,000 and can load up to 5,00,000 records at a time.

• An object which is not supported by import wizards, data loader is used to load the data in that object.  

• It can be used as nightly imports to schedule regular data loads. 

• For backup purposes also, data loader is used to export data.  

Follow the Steps Below to Install Data Loader:

1. Salesforce admins can find the link to download link from Salesforce Setup.  
2. Navigate to Setup and search for Data Loader, click on Data Loader.   
3. Download the Data Loader installation file depending on your operating system.
4. Users must have modify all data permissions to be able to access the page to download the Data Loader.

Requirement to Use Data Loader:

For Microsoft® Windows®:

• Intel x86 - 64-bit
• 120 MB of free space is required in disk 
• Minimum 256 MB memory should be available 
• JRE version 11 or later, like: Zulu OpenJDK version 11 or later for Windows.
