What is a app in Salesforce?

Salesforce App: It is a group of tabs that makes it easy for users to access a set of related features in the full Salesforce.com browser app. All the metadata such as Objects, Visualforce Pages, Classes, etc is independent of an app. It just helps to group things together visually.
