Salesforce.com provides list of tabs and are placed in Tab menu. To access data of an objects Tabs are used. Tabs in Salesforce are three types they are.
Custom Tabs.
Visualforce Tabs.
Web Tabs. -
Custom Object Tabs — For your custom object data. Custom Object Tabs display the data of your custom object in a user interface tab. Custom object tabs look and function just like standard tabs.
Web Tabs — For other web content Custom Web Tabs display any external Web-based application or Web page in a Salesforce tab.

Custom tabs let you display custom object data or other web content in Salesforce. When you add a custom tab to an app in Salesforce Classic, it displays as a tab. When you add a custom tab to an app in Lightning Experience, it displays as an item in the app's navigation bar.
