Default Value for a field?
I have a lookup field on my Custom Object which has 2 record types. This field is a Master-Detail one
While creating a new record for this Custom Object, I want this lookup field to be auto-populated for just one record type and stay empty for the other.
How can I achieve this?

Because its Master-Detail relationship, it is a mandatory field. So I don't think Workflow can work here. I need a way to pre-populate for that record type when the page loads
